I’m Rachel and I’ve been with the company since 2001. I came for a short period while I considered what I wanted to do next with my nursing career.

I was working a lot of nights and unable to move into a community role in my unit because of short staffing on my ward.

It’s the best move I have ever made – I’ve never looked back! I started as a placement coordinator and have worked my way up to my current role of Director of Operations.

My role is forever changing, which keeps things very varied and interesting.

I work with a great bunch of people, both internally and those who represent us working for the agency, and I find it very rewarding knowing we are providing staff to clinical areas that may otherwise have to go without.

1. What do you enjoy most about working for Thornbury?

Knowing that we are sending staff at short notice who can hit the ground running, able to work as one of the team. As a nurse I know what it’s like to have staff shortages on my ward – yet knowing a Thornbury nurse was coming along always reassured me. They were far more able to support us than many nurses from other agencies, who were often just sent as an extra pair of hands, and unable to deal with many of the tasks.

2. What makes Thornbury stand out compared to other agencies?

Our ability to provide staff at very short notice. While many agencies claim to charge less and pay similar, only Thornbury can deliver high quality staff when no one else can.

3. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

Life’s too short – regret the things you do, as opposed to the things you wish you had done.
